Arsenal are currently scouting two left-back options in Ryan Bertrand and Tyrick Mitchell.
After Sead Kolasinac’s departure, the Gunners need a backup to Kieran Tierney.
The Scotsman impact is far too greater for the team to be left up to makeshift options. Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cedric Soares has been made to deputise in the position and both have offered very little in terms of offensive impact.
A traditional left-footer with an intent to overlap is what Arsenal are targeting. Ryan Bertrand’s contract with Southampton is due to run out in June. While the Saints are not willing to lose such an important player, Arsenal could fast track his departure by handing him a lucrative deal.
Bertrand has been one of the most consistent presence across the Premier League for some time now. At 31, he is still solid and showcased his best traits in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal on Saturday.
Tyrick Mitchell’s contract is also set to run out in June. He is the more attractive option at 21, having featured a lot this season for Crystal Palace. Arsenal can sign both players for free next summer but the incentive would be to add one now.
