Arsenal are looking to sign Ibrahim Sangare from Toulouse but face competition from AC Milan.
He is a defensive midfielder whose contract is about to run out.
Mikel Arteta and Edu have recognized a number of midfield targets as an alternative to Thomas Partey and Houssem Auoar. While both those players remain high on Arsenal’s transfer plans, there needs to be a backup plan.
Sanagre is just that at 22 years of age and worth only around €10m. Toulouse are aware of the interest in him and would much rather sell him on than lose him for free next summer. The Ivory Coast international is an industrial midfielder capable of playing in a pivot or as a central midfielder.
He has featured in 86 games for Toulouse so far, and has earned 5 caps for Ivory Coast. The 22-year-old is an admirable prospect who seems on escaping the French second division soon.
AC Milan also view him as an alternative to Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko. It is unlikely the Rossoneri will go for him if they manage to sign Bakayoko. Both clubs are reportedly close to finding an agreement but Arsenal are still way off in their valuation of Partey.
Atletico Madrid want his full release clause of €50m paid out in full to let him leave. Otherwise, they will be happy to keep him until his contract ends. If such were the case, Sangare would be Arsenal’s best bet in securing that midfield.
