Arsenal are in pole position to sign Martin Zubimendi in the summer.
The Gunners are reportedly frontrunners in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi in the summer.
But they would face a tough battle from the likes of Barcelona and Bayer Munich who are keen to add the midfielder to their ranks.
Zubimendi’s deal with Real Sociedad is set to expire in 2027 and clubs are willing to activate the player’s £50 million release clause.
The 24-year-old midfielder has blossomed into a star since coming through the ranks at Sociedad and has amassed over 200 appearances for the Spanish club.
Mikel Arteta has made signing a midfielder one of his transfer priorities this January and it’s likely that the club would sign one in the summer.
Zubimendi has made 20 LaLiga appearances this season, scoring four goals and making one assist in the process.
According to reports, Mikel Arteta has reportedly held talks with the Spanish midfielder and the player is open to moving to the North London club.
Fabrizio Romano said: “My personal feeling is that Zubimendi would be fantastic, even if Amadou Onana and Douglas Luiz have the advantage of both already knowing the Premier League.
“Zubimendi is fantastic player, he can help with his vision, quality and intelligence on the ball – he’s the perfect midfielder.”
