Arsenal fans have formed the opinion that Calum Chambers should be recalled to Arsenal and fielded in place of Granit Xhaka.
The Englishman has been sent out on loan to Fulham for the entire 2018/19 season and he has impressed in his newfound defensive midfield role.
Chambers traditionally was trained and even signed to Arsenal as a centre-back. After making 80 appearances for the Gunners, it became abundantly clear that the 24-year-old has a lot of offensive qualities which could be utilised by positioning him further up the field.
He was particularly noticeable during the Cottagers’ 1-2 defeat against Chelsea this past weekend. Many fans even believe the player should have been called back to Arsenal in the January window when the club was going through a serious defensive crisis.
Express have allocated comments from a few Arsenal fans who are in support of Chambers. One fan said, “With the new manager we won’t be making the same mistakes all over again. We have enough young teenagers from France. And Calum Chambers will be like a new signing in May.”
Another added, “Arsenal should have recalled Chambers in January he’s better than Xhaka”
A third posted, “Arsenal should keep chambers as a squad depth midfielder. He is decent.”
And another, “ Calum Chambers playing some great football in the middle the Fulham midfield. I’m sure Unai Emery is watching with interest.”
One Arsenal fan noticed, “He is growing into a good PL CDM. A player we could use in a squad. Been very very good in Fulham this year.”
Xhaka has grown into a key part of Emery’s midfield which constantly seems to get rotated between the Swiss, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira.
However, the former seems to have held on to the same bad habits that he was expected to outgrow over the past 30 months with the Gunners.
Bringing in Chambers could certainly stiffen up Arsenal’s defensive system while also giving their attacking lineup more room to express themselves.
