In a report published on Thursday, Fabrizio Romano stated that a deal had been made for Cardiff to sign OGC Nice midfielder Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer.
Ramsey underwent a physical with Cardiff on Thursday, and the BBC reports that he is now just a few steps away from finalising the transfer.
The former Arsenal player is currently just waiting for Nice to confirm his exit, at which point Cardiff will be allowed to sign him as a free agent.
Cardiff is only permitted to sign players on free transfers as they are currently subject to a transfer embargo due to their failure to make the initial payment of Emiliano Sala’s £15 million transfer fee. Other clubs reportedly expressed interest in Ramsey, but he was ready to return to Wales with his family.
Ramsey’s third tenure at Cardiff, the team from which Arsenal first acquired him, would be this one. Ramsey moved permanently to Wales in 2008, and in 2011 he returned there on loan to improve his match fitness. The 32-year-old has subsequently represented Juventus, Rangers, and most recently Nice, but it appears that he may soon make a more long-term move back to his own nation.
