As Christmas rapidly approaches, the fixtures pile up. As the fixtures pile up, it’s much easier to see the shortcomings in your squad. When you see the shortcomings in your squad, there’s a pretty good chance you can gauge whether or not those shortcomings need patching up or whether it’s something you can address in training. If it’s something you need to “patch up” then luckily for you, providing you’re a club with money to spend, January is right around the corner and you know what that means? The winter transfer window is open, you have until January 31st to make any changes to your squad, purchases or sales, either works. You got a striker who isn’t performing and keeps spitting his dummy out like a spoiled child? *cough* Kane *cough* Get them sold in January, you need a new centre back because you’ve been hit with an injury crisis? Get some cover in, even if it is only a loan deal.
Today, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the players linked with moves to and from Arsenal, we’ll be checking all the betting stats across many different sites, to find you the best odds on the biggest names that are linked one way or the other. While it’s still early days and many odds may not be available, we’ll be trying our best to find them for you! So, if we’re all ready, we won’t bother wasting any time here and we’ll get straight into it!
The first name I want to talk about isn’t a player that I think has been heavily linked with Arsenal, however he is somebody that has been mentioned and that I think Arsenal could definitely make a move for. That player is Georginio Wijnaldum. Wijnaldum has bags of Premier League experience including a title win with Liverpool as well as a Champions League title to go along with it. Wijnaldum is still a key starter for the Netherlands under Louis van Gaal but has only made 10 starts for PSG since moving to Paris in the summer. The midfielder has recently come out saying he isn’t exactly pleased with how things have been for him since making his move and that he would be open to a return to the Premier League.
Would a club like Arsenal be a good choice for him? I genuinely think he would boss it at Arsenal, however, I also wouldn’t rule him out of moving back to Newcastle for the back half of the season to help them stay up. I very highly doubt Liverpool would take him back, even on loan. As a betting man I feel like my money would be on Wijnaldum going to Newcastle at 10/1 (Betway) no official odds can currently be found for Wijnaldum to Arsenal but I reckon, it’s worth a punt and you’d likely get good odds if you inquired about it now. I don’t see why bookies wouldn’t take a punt on it somewhere in the region of 16/1 perhaps.
Arsenal are currently 7th in the Premier League, but their record isn’t great. In 15 games they have 7 wins 2 draws and 6 losses, one of the reasons behind their not so great showing this season is a lack of goals. They are currently sat with a -4 goal differential, scoring only 18 goals so far in 15 games and with players like Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pépé manning your front lines, it’s kind of surprising to see them with so few goals. It’s this poor goalscoring form that has led to links for Richarlison to surface. Could this man be the key to solving Arsenal’s goal scoring woes?
To make things more interesting, Alexandre Lacazette has allegedly admitted that his agents have been talking about potentially working on a move away from the club, the 30 year old never truly lived up to expectations after he tore Ligue 1 apart on a regular basis, never quite hitting that form. But would Richarlison really be a good replacement for him? Richarlison is quick and not afraid to take a player on, he hasn’t got the greatest disciplinary record but at 24 years there is a lot of room for improvement. It’s thought that Richarlison now believes Everton are “too small a club” for him, at least under Rafa Benitez and he would be looking for a move away, with a potential free space in the striker department we reckon 7/1 odds on a move to Arsenal would be a pretty solid shout. Whether he’s the man to really take Arsenal forward is another question.
