After Bernd Leno was sent off in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves, Runar Alex Runarsson was the only option Mikel Arteta had left.
The Icelandic goalkeeper was the backup behind Leno for the first half of the season but he failed to impress. That was why Edu Gaspar went out and signed Ryan on loan from Brighton after the latter had a falling out with Graham Potter.
The only hiccup behind Ryan’s move was he arrived carrying a hip injury. He was set to be unavailable for this weekend tie but seems to have made a timely recovery. Now, Arteta can pick the 28-year-old for his first start just as Runarsson was about to get his.
Runarsson was set to feature in three games while Leno served his suspension but that might not be the case. It is still unclear if Arteta will throw Ryan right into the mix so soon.
Hjorvar Haflioason said on the Dr. Football Podcast that Ryan is about to be handed his debut in a Gunners jersey. Arsenal took a horrible 3-0 beating last time they faced Aston Villa. Let’s hope they can carry out a win this time around.
