Jeremie Frimpong is set to leave Bayer Leverkusen next summer.
The right-back has been touted as one of the most promising defenders in the Bundesliga and has been linked with several elite European clubs in recent times.
Arsenal are one of the clubs monitoring the defender’s situation whose contract with Leverkusen expires in the summer of 2028.
The Dutch full-back has already contributed to 12 goals this season and has been one of the stand-out performers in this impressive Xabi Alonso side.
Frimpong’s release clause of €40m would be activated next summer and the player is keen to sanction an exit at the business end of this campaign.
The 22-year-old could be a bargain signing for Mikel Arteta who reportedly wants a more attack-minded defender in the right-back position.
“There have been plenty of stories about Jeremie Frimpong and a £34m release clause in his contract. I can confirm that there is a clause, and he’s certainly a player who is greatly admired around Europe after some fantastic performances this season,” Romano said.
“Frimpong has been scouted by Arsenal and Bayern Munich in recent times, as well as by Barcelona before they instead signed Joao Cancelo on loan from Manchester City in the summer.
“I think in June a move is likely for Frimpong, and he surely won’t be short of suitors as many clubs have been tracking him for some time.”
