David Ospina set to stay at Napoli beyond this season, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed.
The arrival of Bernd Leno compelled Ospina to make a move to Naples in a season long loan. The loan stint is bound to be permanent next season if the custodian plays a certain amount of games.
Ancelotti was forced to bring in reinforcements following an injury to summer arrival Alex Meret who broke his hand. Ospina had been the preferred choice until Meret became fully fit.
With Leno and Petr Cech up ahead in the pecking order Ospina would love to try his hand in the Serie-A more severely. If the Italian club were to make this switch permanent they would have to pay a paltry amount of £4m.
Ospina who has featured in 11 top flight games this season would provide competition to Meret. Ospina sit out the last four games but played his part in the goalless draw against Torino.
Anceotti said, “Ospina was meant to play on Thursday in the Europa League, but wasn’t feeling up to it, so I switched things around and used him [against Torino] instead.
“Ospina will remain at Napoli next season, regardless of how many games he plays.”
