Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly given Arsenal the go-ahead to pursue Christopher Nkunku after finalising the transfer of Leandro Paredes from Zenit St. Petersburg for themselves.
Reports have emerged that Unai Emery is still hopeful of signing Denis Suarez from Barcelona before the transfer deadline but the possibility of a move for the PSG youngster is also very much alive.
Nkunku is a 6-time France U21 international who made the breakthrough into the Parisians first team under Unai Emery. He is a versatile presence in midfield and has made 17 appearances this term, scoring on 2 occasions and laying out a single assist.
Emery has already unearthed a hidden gem in Matteo Guendouzi, from the French second division. With Aaron Ramsey set to leave for Juventus the following summer, finding a short term solution is necessary for the Gunners.
Paredes’ introduction into the Parc des Princes is expected to reduce Nkunku’s involvement under Thomas Tuchel. Previous reports claimed that the 21-year-old’s loan agreement will be attached with a buy-back clause worth £18m.
His contract with PSG is set to run till the summer of 2020.
Nkunku can offer Emery a lot of options on the offensive end. While his creative abilities still need further development, the Frenchman can appear from both wing and deep midfield positions.
