A source claims that because of his impressive performances this season, Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba is a target for Arsenal. With ten appearances (nine starts) for Brighton this season, 20-year-old Baleba has drawn attention. In September, his club only lost one of those ten games to Chelsea, a match in which Baleba both scored and provided an assist.
The Cameroon international was rested as Brighton fell to Liverpool in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday, despite having scored against Wolves and assisted against Crawley Town. Baleba primarily plays as a more defensive midfielder, so those four goals are an added bonus. This season, he has helped Brighton defeat Manchester United, Tottenham, and Newcastle in addition to drawing with a 10-man Arsenal.
Arsenal interested in Premier League star midfielder
Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023, and Brighton signed Baleba to take his position. According to the report, Arsenal will have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for the midfield player’s services. Speculation regarding Baleba’s future appears to be growing ahead of the January transfer window, as the midfield player has previously been linked to a move to Arsenal.
If the Gunners have the chance to reach an agreement with Brighton, they should at least take the Cameroon international into consideration, as he has been predicted to have a great future. Given that Jorginho and Thomas Partey are growing older and their contracts are expiring, Arsenal may require a new defensive midfield player in the upcoming transfer windows. Declan Rice has little long-term competition, but he should be around for a while.
