Arsenal has been charged for the team’s behaviour during Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle, the FA has confirmed

When Jacob Murphy appeared to have handled the ball inside the box as the game came to a close, the Gunners believed they should have been awarded a penalty.

However, the VAR and the referee disagreed, resulting in angry outbursts from the Arsenal players and their manager Mikel Arteta. In his post-game remarks, the coach alluded to that choice as well as an earlier penalty appeal that was rejected as “scandalous.”

Arsenal now has until Tuesday of the next week to reply to the accusations. Arsenal has been accused of failing to guarantee that its players behaved properly during Tuesday’s scoreless Premier League match with Newcastle.

The accusation concerns a situation in the fifth minute of stoppage time when several Arsenal players surrounded referee Andrew Madley to demand a penalty for a potential handball. Their pleas were denied by referee Madley, who showed nine players yellow cards in the Emirates Stadium match that descended into violence and scuffles.

Arsenal FC has been charged with violating FA rule E20.1 following their Premier League game against Newcastle United FC on January 3, 2023, according to a statement from the FA.
