Arsenal have submitted a formal proposal to sign Spanish defender Arnau Martínez from La Liga side Girona FC.
Arsenal Launch €10m Bid for Girona Defender Arnau Martinez
The bid, valued at €8 million upfront with an additional €2 million in performance-related bonuses, aims to bolster Mikel Arteta’s defensive options ahead of the transfer deadline.
The 22-year-old right-back, a product of Girona’s youth academy, has emerged as a key target for the Gunners as they seek cover following the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu and ongoing fitness concerns involving Ben White and Jurrien Timber.
Martínez’s versatility—he can also operate as a centre-back—makes him an attractive option for Arteta, who values tactical flexibility.
Martínez has made 163 appearances for Girona since his debut, contributing 9 goals and 18 assists.
His consistent performances have previously attracted interest from clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, but Arsenal now lead the race for his signature.
Girona are reportedly considering the offer, with Martínez’s recent omission from the starting lineup fueling speculation about his future. The Spaniard’s contract expires in 2027, but Arsenal’s offer could test the Catalan club’s resolve.
If completed, Martínez would become Arsenal’s eighth signing of the summer, following high-profile acquisitions such as Viktor Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze.
The club’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, continues to work on strengthening the squad despite a busy transfer window.
With the deadline approaching, Arsenal are pushing to finalize the deal as they aim to balance squad depth and maintain a competitive edge across multiple competitions.
