Mikel Arteta is planning to prize James Maddison away from Leicester City this summer.
According to The Express, Arsenal rate the player highly and are willing to spend a subsequent part of their finances to land him.
The Gunners lost out to Aston Villa in the race for Emiliano Buendia. The Villans raised their offer to €35m and got to Arsenal’s first target for the number ten spot. It only seems natural for them to go out and target another player.
Maddison’s name did not surface at all leading up to the summer but suddenly seem to be the most important name on the block. The Englishman has developed immensely since leaving Norwich City for Leicester two years back. He also signed a four-year contract extension just last summer.
Maddison is a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad. He played in 31 league games last season before an injury disrupted his chances of making it into the 2020 Euros England squad.
At 24, Maddison has the capability to dictate Arsenal’s attack but at what cost? Recent reports indicate that Arsenal are ready to bid £60m for him. Will that be enough to convince Leicester into selling? I don’t think so.
