Emiliano Martinez is on his way out of the Emirates doors and Mikel Arteta wants to bring in an able replacement.
Last season, Martinez broke into the scene after Bernd Leno suffered a season-ending injury. His impressive performances brought up his stock enough to debate over who will be Arsenal’s number one.
Leno remained Arteta’s first choice and Martinez was eager to move on for more opportunities. Arsenal are set to bank £20m from his sale and reinvest a bit of it on Runarsson.
The 25-year-old started his career at KR Reykjavik before moving to Danish side Nordsjaelland in 2014. Gunners keeper coach, Inaki Cana coached him in Denmark and has probably brought up his name to Arteta.
Runarsson signed for Dijon in 2018 and has impressed. The chief scout, Sebastien Larcier said, “When we discovered his profile, the interest was immediately strong…He is technically talented, he is not afraid to play high and has very good footwork. In addition, he has the temperament and charisma”.
Arsenal could probably use Runarsson’s talents since a move for Brentford’s David Raya will be much more expensive.
