In the first transaction of the month for Mikel Arteta’s team, Arsenal sold Josh Robinson to Wigan Athletic. A three-and-a-half-year contract has been signed by the 20-year-old defender to join the League One team. Although the Hale End academy product did not play for the Gunners as a senior, he has been a substitute for the North London team in four of their six Champions League games this year.
With the ability to play both center and right defense, Robinson has participated in three EFL Trophy games this season and scored against Leyton Orient. Arsenal began developing the young player when he was eleven years old, and he has played for youth England. Following the signing of his contract, Wigan’s first January addition considered the importance of his choice. Robinson declared after his transfer was complete, “I am really excited to start my journey here.”
Wigan sign defender Robinson from Arsenal
“I’ve worked at Arsenal for a long time, and while leaving the academy and entering the first team is a big step, I think I’m ready for it.”It is a significant choice, but I reasoned that I should take a chance and hope for the best. I am eager to get started. “We have been keeping an eye on Josh for a while, and I am very happy that he is now a member of Wigan Athletic,” stated Shaun Maloney, manager of Wigan, who currently sits in 16th place in League One.
While Josh’s decision to move here was a big one, he is inspired and thrilled about our plans for the club in the upcoming seasons. In addition to being an incredibly committed defenseman, he is also a strong attacking player. I’m excited to collaborate with Josh in order to support him and the team in reaching our objectives.
