Arsenal has been scouring the transfer market for a new goalkeeper, and they have now launched an attempt to capture a potential Ajax graduate. Fabrizio Romano claims that the Gunners have made an initial offer for Ajax’s highly skilled 18-year-old goalkeeper Tommy Setford.

His present deal with the Eredivisie team expires in June of the next year. The young England player is rumoured to be eager to join the Gunners. As mentioned, with less than a year left on the player’s current deal, Ajax are in a weak bargaining position. The fact that Setford wants to leave only makes it more likely that Arsenal will pull off a coup.

Arsenal eyeing new third-choice goalkeeper for next season

The Gunners have now set their sights on a new third-choice goalkeeper. Dan Bentley of Wolverhampton Wanderers has also been in the news recently. With their offering, the club has failed to persuade Wolves. They seem to have shifted their focus to chasing Setford, who was born in the Netherlands.

Although the 18-year-old has not yet played for the Dutch powerhouses in the first squad, he has already made 44 appearances in the academy and has kept 17 clean sheets. Setford has played for his country in four different age divisions. Last month, he was benched for England’s Under-20 friendlies against Sweden and Ireland.

Next season, Setford may be the Gunners’ third-choice goalie behind Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya, though the latter’s future is still up in the air.
