Youri Tielemans is on Arsenal’s radar ahead of Janaury’s transfer window, according to journalist CBS Ben Jacobs.
The North London club was heavily linked with the Leicester City midfielder throughout the summer window, only for him to stay at the King Power Stadium despite his contract running down.
The Belgian is entering the final 12 months of his Leicester terms in the off-season, he was of serious interest to Arsenal.
In fact, according to The Sun, Mikel Arteta’s side were ‘closing in’ on a £40m deal to bring the £120,000 per-week star to north London.
Arsenal weren’t able to sign him or any other centre midfielder, which looked like being a mistake when Mohamed Elneny suffered an injury early in the season.
Jacobs told to GIVEMESPORT about Tielemans: “From Arsenal’s point of view, Tielemans will be someone that will remain on their radar, but the midfield is ultimately looking pretty good at the moment.
“So, where are Arsenal looking to strengthen if they move in January, it’s probably, from what I hear, more of a creative minded player that can play in wider areas, which is obviously why in the earlier part of the window they were looking for a player like Raphinha and they didn’t get him, and Tielemans didn’t quite fit that box.”
Despite this campaign proving a miserable one for Leicester, following a testing start, Tielemans has dusted himself down and is hitting form right in time for the World Cup.
Tielemans has taken his record as a Leicester player to 51 goal contributions in just 170 games.
