Arsenal are monitoring an Eredivisie striker as a potential alternative to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. The Gunners are keen to boost their squad and they need solid strikers for the new season.
The North London club was not active during the winter transfer window as they want to invest funds in the summer window. The Gunners are believed to be prioritising the addition of a new centre-forward.
Arsenal are one of a number of top European clubs battling for the signature of highly-rated 21-year-old striker Sesko. He was impactful for the Bundesliga giants, scoring 14 goals last season.
However, it is now added that Sesko has made the decision to snub interest from the Premier League. RB Leipzig are expected to extend his contract this month.
Arsenal are now scouting Santiago Gimenez among other targets and they have also Joshua Zirkzee in the wishlist who scored 11 goals in 34 league games in Serie A.
As per the reports of Evening Standard, Zirkzee is one several forwards that the Gunners have scouted along with Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.
Santiago Gimenez is playing for Feyenoord since his arrival in 2022. The 23-year-old is one of the most prolific strikers, scoring 49 goals in 86 appearances across all competitions.
Gimenez scored 28 times in 50 matches during his debut season in the Netherlands. He scored 26 goals in 41 games in the 2023-24 season.
Gimenez’s contract will expire in the summer of 2027. However, the striker will leave the club during this summer’s transfer window. He is valued between £30m and £40m by Feyenoord.
Gimenez also hinted at a possible future transfer away from the club, while speaking to Marca: “Starting off my journey in Europe here (at Feyenoord) has been a success. The club has had success as they have gotten the most out of me.
“And I know they want to see me grow so they can sell me at the highest possible price. That is the reality that clubs like (Feyenoord) live off of that. There is the path, and I am very calm in that aspect.”
