Arsenal are ‘desperate’ to tie Mikel Arteta down to a new deal.

Arsenal are in advanced talks with manager Mikel Arteta over a new long-term contract. They are ready to extend his contract at Emirates. The 42-year-old showed value to the Arsenal board in the previous two boards.

The Spaniard was appointed Arsenal boss in the winter of 2019 after just over three years working as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at Man City.

Arteta impressed in his first season when he won the FA Cup for the club. He has transformed the club and Arsenal are now the top club in Europe. They are now regular at the Champions League.

The North London club finished second in the points table and failed short of the title. Arsenal once again came up short and finished two points behind the club at the summit.

As per the reports of Football Insider, Arteta is in advanced talks with Arsenal’s hierarchy over a new long-term contract at the club. The report adds that ongoing negotiations between both parties are ‘progressing nicely’, with both the manager and club happy to continue together.

Arsenal are ‘desperate’ to tie him down to a new deal because some European clubs are looking to sign him. Arteta signed a new three-year deal with the Gunners in May 2022 and his current deal will expire in the summer of 2025.

Arteta spoke to reporters when quizzed about his future, “No, nothing. I am really happy. I still have a year on my contract, that’s a long time in football.”

“The players are happy, the club is happy, no issues. I’m just focusing on the games and winning football matches and that’s the most important thing right now.”
