Arsenal initiates talks to recall Marquinhos in January

Arsenal is apparently in talks with FC Nantes about abruptly recalling its talented youngster, Marquinhos, off his season-long loan.

The 20-year-old Brazilian winger, who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022, has had little playing time in Ligue 1, making only one start since joining the French side in August.

Despite making a great debut for Arsenal in the Europa League, when he scored and assisted against FC Zurich, Marquinhos’ spell on loan at Nantes has not gone as planned. The decision to bring him back to the Emirates in January shows the club’s desire to provide further opportunities for development for the young youngster.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, applauded Marquinhos following his outstanding performance in the Europa League, illustrating the player’s popularity inside the club.

He said, “He’s a player that is very popular, with no English, just with his smile and attitude has won the respect and admiration of everybody here.”

This possible early return follows Marquinhos’ loan spell with Norwich City in the Championship last season, where he made 11 appearances. The teenage winger had previously spent his entire career with Brazilian club Sao Paulo, where he helped them win the Campeonato Paulista in 2021.

As the negotiations progress, Arsenal appears keen to secure Marquinhos’ return to enhance the team in their pursuit of a title, providing the young Brazilian with the required platform to further refine his skills.
