Arsenal in talks to sell £50m star Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal have received a formal approach from Galatasaray for Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli, with the Turkish champions keen to secure his signature before the summer transfer window closes.

The 25-year-old has been a mainstay at the Emirates since his debut in 2019, amassing 278 appearances across all competitions.

However, Martinelli endured a difficult campaign last season, managing just one Premier League goal in 30 outings.

That lack of consistent output has placed his long-term future in doubt, particularly after Arsenal invested £34m to bring Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.

Tzolis has featured as Arteta’s primary left-sided starter throughout pre-season, scoring on debut against Girona and providing an assist against Real Betis.

With Leandro Trossard already departing for Besiktas in a £15m move, Martinelli now faces increased competition for minutes.

Galatasaray have reportedly submitted a bid of around £34m (€40m) for the Brazilian. However, Arsenal have made it clear they will not sanction Martinelli’s departure unless they secure a suitable replacement first.

The Gunners previously pursued an ambitious move for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, demonstrating their desire to upgrade their wide options.

While that deal ultimately fell through, Arsenal continue to monitor the market for another premium winger.

For his part, Martinelli remains settled in north London and retains ambitions of competing at the highest level.

But the genuine prospect of being displaced by further attacking arrivals could alter his stance on a move to Galatasaray.

Mikel Arteta has hinted that further transfer activity is on the horizon.

“We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously,” the Arsenal manager said after a 4-1 pre-season victory over Girona.

“We won’t sit still, and we are very ambitious”.

Martinelli’s contract expires next summer, though Arsenal hold an option to extend by a further year.

If the club identifies a suitable attacking target in the coming weeks, Galatasaray are expected to intensify their pursuit of the Brazilian.

Until then, Martinelli must fight to reclaim his starting spot as Arsenal prepare for their Premier League opener against newly-promoted Coventry City.
