Arsenal want to sign AS Roma’s Roger Ibanez.
Liverpool are also interested in the 22-year-old centre-half who has featured in 13 Serie A games this season and really impressed.
Ibanez looks to be a solid presence at the back after failing to break into the Atalanta first team. He flew down from Fluminense in 2019 but could not settle under Gan Piere Gassparini. Roma brought him on a loan and has an option to make his transfer permanent for just €8 million.
Reports claim that Arsenal, Everton, Leicester City and Liverpool are all lining up to make bid themselves. All of them have contacted Roma about the player and will have to splash out £35 million to sign him. That price could even rise if more clubs flock to his feet.
PSG have also been credited with taking an interest in Ibanez. The Brazilian is young, strong and very capable in defence. Liverpool are thought to be favourites in this race due to their injury crisis.
Arsenal, however, might not be. Mikel Arteta’s priority this January will be to move out unnecessary talent and trimming down his bloated squad. He will also be aiming to bring in a playmaker before he can attend to his defence.
