Arsenal wants to secure the future of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese defender has 18 months left on his contract at the Emirates and Arsenal has an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

His versatility has proven to be a key asset for manager Mikel Arteta months after considering selling the defender in the summer window.

According to several reports, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is an admirer of the 25-year-old full-back and wants to land him in the winter transfer window.

But after Jurrien Timber’s injury in the summer, Tomiyasu became a key player for Arteta and the club wants to offer him a long-term deal.

The Gunners have no intention of sanctioning a departure midway through the season and are all set to block a move for Tomiyasu this January.

Arteta recently spoke about the defender: ‘Tomi is a player that everybody loves in there. He’s always the first (in training) and he’s always the last out. You tell him to do something and he will give his life for it.

‘He’s an exceptionally professional player who gives us a versatility and qualities that nobody else has in the squad. For me he’s a really important player.”
