Barcelona loanee Joao Cancelo will see his contract expire in the summer of 2027.
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a summer swoop for Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo. Meanwhile, Barcelona are keen to offer him a permanent deal. But, their financial issues are putting pressure on Laporta.
Cancelo spent his last season with Bayern Munich and he joined the Catalan giants on a temporary deal for the 2023-24 season. He has established himself as an important player under Xavi.
The Portugal international has made 32 appearances for Barca across all competitions. He has scored four goals and provided four assists whilst operating as either a right-back or left-back.
The 29-year-old will see his contract expire in the summer of 2027. Man City are not interested in extending his contract. He recently accused City of being “ungrateful” and has claimed that “lies were told” by his manager Guardiola in relation to reports over his attitude during his time at Etihad.
Man City full-back has expressed his desire to join Barcelona on a permanent basis. As per reports, La Liga winners are reluctant to meet Man City’s £40m asking price for Cancelo.
Arsenal recruited both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko for a combined fee in excess of £70m in the summer of 2022. They need someone like Cancelo to boost their squad.
It is thought that Cancelo’s experience at the highest level and his ability to play on either flank or in midfield appeals to Arteta.
Cancelo has made 154 appearances in all competitions for Man City since joining the club in 2019, recording nine goals and 22 assists, while he has also won three Premier League titles and one EFL Cup.
