According to reports in France, Arsenal are leading the race to sign Lille star Nicolas Pepe. Pepe has been terrific for Lille this season so far, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists. Pepe is currently the leading scorer in Ligue 1 alongside Nantes forward Emiliano Sala and Kylian Mbappe.
Due to Pepe’s performances, Lille are currently second in the league table and there’s a very good chance they could qualify for their first Champions League in 7 years.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery is eager to bolster his attacking options. Danny Welbeck’s injury has ruled him out for a while and Arsenal need a quality forward now.
Pepe is just the kind of goalscoring winger that could benefit Arsenal at the moment and the club are willing to rope him in.
Earlier reports claimed that Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were interested in signing the Ivorian winger. Now, it seems that the Gunners have a very good chance of signing Pepe.
A few months back, Lille manager Christoph Galtier said that Pepe is not for sale. However, given the fact that current performances and the fact that four years remain on Pepe’s contract will enhance the winger’s market value, Lyon might try to make a good profit by selling him.
