The midfielder is looking to revive his career

Arsenal endured an underwhelming season as they failed to win any silverware in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign. They finished 6th in the Premier League, reached the Carabao Cup final and the Europa League semi-final.

Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of the Gunners and is charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.

The Spaniard is expected to be busy in the summer transfer window in order to strengthen the squad for next season. He has been told by the club’s board he will have to operate under a restricted transfer budget of £50 million during his first summer in charge at the Emirates.

Despite limits on what they can spend, the Premier League giants have already completed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer.  They have wasted little time having struck a deal to sign Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira but are looking to complete more signings.

Arsenal are the front runners to sign Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Daily Mirror.  Everton, West Ham, Newcastle and Leicester also have shown interest in him.

The midfielder was on top of the world when he fired Germany to World Cup glory in Brazil in 2014 with a dramatic extra-time winner against Argentina. But he has endured a difficult four years since then.

The rest of his time at Bayern Munich didn’t went well as he struggled for regular game time and failed to make impact. He returned back to his former club Borussia Dortmund in 2016 in order to get more first team football.

The 26 year old showed glimpses of his talent last season, scoring 2 goals and assisting 6 in 32 games. But still didn’t went the way he was hoping for and even missed a place in the Germany World Cup squad.

The Germany International is looking to kickstart his career and is keen to move to Premier League as he believes a fresh start in the biggest league in the world will give him the perfect platform to showcase his ability again.

It is believed £18 million fee likely to be enough to convince the German giants to sell him this summer.
