Arsenal is looking for a striker to replace Gabriel Jesus who got injured during the World Cup. Meanwhile, Arsenal legend David Seaman is not happy with this attitude and he wants club to avoid this. He has urged the club not to risk upsetting their current options.
Mikel Arteta is planning to boost his squad and he wants to bring a new forward after Gabriel Jesus picked up an injury.
The former Man City man is recovering from it and expected to miss at least three months of action. Arteta is showing faith on Nketiah who is taking charge in place of the Brazilian. He also impressed with scoring five goals out of five matches.
The Gunners are strongly linked with Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhalo Mudryk and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix to reinforce their forward line. Joao Felix is now moving to Chelsea so they have just one option.
The North London club are close to completing the deal to sign Mudryk. However, Seaman has urged them against the idea to avoid upsetting Edward Nketiah.
“The problem you’ve got is you don’t know how long Gabriel Jesus is going to be out for,” Seaman told talkSPORT. “If that is a shorter-term injury then no you don’t [need a replacement].
“If it’s longer term then you’ve got to think about it because you don’t want Jesus and Nketiah being back at full fitness, and then another striker is overload.
“Does that upset either striker? I’m sure it would upset Nketiah if he wasn’t getting game time. It is a difficult one, and it all depends on the injury status of Jesus, how long is he going to be out for?”
There were concerns that Nketiah would struggle to match Jesus’ impact in the team after the latter’s injury but it was blessing in disguise. The 23-year-old has grabbed this opportunity with both hands and did the good job.
He netted in consecutive games against West Ham United and Brighton in the Premier League. He also scored a brace in Arsenal’s FA Cup win over Oxford United.
