Unai Emery was appointed as Arsenal’s new manager back in May after Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club after 22 years at the end of the season. He signed a three-year deal worth £15 million.
The Gunners finished sixth in the Premier League last season and will miss the Champions League next season. The Spaniard has been charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.
It has been a busy transfer for the Premier League giants, as the new boss has brought in new five players, reinforcing the particular areas which needed strengthening to compete for major silverware next season.
Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient, Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.
Club legend Paul Merson has praised Emery’s first transfer window in charge and claimed he has signed the type of players he needed.
“He’s bought players that they needed,” Merson said on Sky Sports as quoted by Express Sport.
“He needed defenders, he’s bought experience in Lichtsteiner.
“But, 35 years of age. How many 35-year-olds are playing in the Premier League? Especially at the back.
“But he’s bought experience, it’s going to be different. He needs time.”
But he feels wont’t have a good start as they will face Manchester City and Chelsea in their first 2 games of the campaign.
