Arsenal legend Robert Pires has insisted that Unai Emery should go for Ismaila Sarr in the next summer transfer window. The Gunners have been suffering from the lack of attacking threat up front, especially with no one to settle into the position of a right winger in the side. The Spanish gaffer brought in his former colleague Denis Suarez from Barcelona on loan in the January transfer window but he has been a major disappointment so far this season and has been left out of the squad on most occasions.
Sarr, on the other hand, has been a revelation at his current club Stade Rennais, whom Arsenal beat in the Europa League round of 16 to qualify for the quarter-final. However, Sarr had put in a delectable display for the Ligue 1 club so as to win the first leg in their own backyard by 3-1 against the Gunners and earned rave reviews from the experts with a superbly headed goal.
Speaking to Sport24, the former Arsenal ace said, “Ismaila Sarr? It would not hurt Arsenal to sign him, but I do not know his price [laughs]. He has the profile to evolve at the Gunners. He would adapt quickly to the way of play wanted by Unai Emery.”
He added, “He is a wide player, a dribbler who runs fast and is able to score. I appreciate him very much. Rennes has good players. That’s why I’m not surprised by their performance in the first leg.”
