Arsenal’s interest in Yves Bissouma is legitimate.
Reports suggest that Mikel Arteta is lining up a summer move after scouting him for months.
Bissouma has emerged as a serious midfield talent after his exploits for Brighton And Hove Albion. Over the past three seasons, he has developed into an industrious central force capable of doing anything.
He is technically good, has a good shot on him and can fulfil his defensive duties with ease. Bissouma’s energy and physical strengths also make him an enviable target for many other outfits.
Signing him in January will be difficult owing to the difficult situation Brighton are in. Graham Potter has been pulled into a relegation battle and will likely have to fight his way out of it for the remainder of the campaign. The Seagulls are understandably hesitant to let their best player go in the middle of the season.
Arteta’s midfield reinforcement strategy does not stop with Thomas Partey. Seeing how Willian has flopped massively and Mesut Ozil is on his way out, Arsenal need more solidity and creativity in the central spaces.
Bissouma would add both those in plenty. He is adept at playing in a box-to-box role or even as a defensive pivot. At 23, he even has room to improve further. Reports suggest that Bissouma’s fee could depend on Brighton surviving relegation but it could be around £40m.
