Manchester United’s Eric Bailly has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window, following his poor performances for the side this season.

Arsenal are one of the clubs to draw heavy connections, especially since Unai Emery’s vocal concerns of strengthening the backline.

The Spanish boss has brought around swift change to the Emirates and has made the club competitive towards a top-four finish this very season. Unfortunately, the Gunners were dealt a heavy blow in the form of a season-long injury to Rob Holding.

Laurent Koscielny did return to action last night against Qarabag to ease Emery’s concerns but the backline could still use a helping hand. Sokratis Papastathopoulos has added some structure since his introduction this summer but Shkodran Mustafi remains a shaky element.

Bailly was widely regarded as one of the best young centre-halfs when he first made his way over to Old Trafford. Following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Ivory Coast international has completely fallen out of sorts in recent times.

It is unclear whether United’s dip in form is the reason for Bailly’s struggles or if he simply is a misfit in Mourinho’s system. The centre-back is a physical marvel with his pace, strength and athleticism and could use a change in atmosphere to get back to his old self.

Nevertheless, with a contract set to run for another season, Arsenal might face a bit of resistance in purchasing from a rival side.
