Arsenal loanee Marquinhos is reportedly set for an early return to North London this January after a challenging stint with Brazilian side Fluminense.

Arsenal Winger Marquinhos Expected Back Early After Fluminense Struggles

The 20-year-old winger, who joined the Brazilian club on a year-long loan in February, now finds himself on the fringes of the team, having struggled to secure regular minutes in recent months.

Initially, Marquinhos was a promising addition to Fluminense’s squad, quickly slotting into their starting lineup and featuring prominently in their opening matches.

Despite an early hamstring injury in June, he bounced back to make four straight starts, showing resilience and eagerness to make his mark.

By the end of July, he had made 24 appearances for the team, seemingly setting the stage for a solid loan spell.

However, another hamstring setback in late July changed the course of his season. Though he regained fitness by August, his chances dwindled as he was unable to reclaim a regular spot.

Since returning, Marquinhos has only been on the pitch twice, with his last start coming on October 18th, where he played just 45 minutes before being substituted at halftime.

Over the last 12 matches, he’s clocked a mere 64 minutes on the field, a stark indication of his diminishing role.

With Fluminense unlikely to activate the purchase option included in his loan deal, Arsenal is now preparing for the winger’s return.

Marquinhos’ early comeback would allow the Gunners to reassess his development and consider fresh loan options or integration into their squad.

As January approaches, the young Brazilian will be hoping for another chance to prove himself, whether in North London or on a new loan path.
