Marquinhos

Arsenal is dedicated to giving the young player additional playing time and experience, as evidenced by their decision to loan Marquinhos to Fluminense. The Brazilian winger played poorly at the Emirates and had a similarly fruitless loan stint with Nantes in Ligue 1. It made sense to send him back to his own country so he could resume his development in a comfortable setting where he could play frequently and show off his abilities.

Fluminense’s inclusion of a €10 million purchase option in the loan arrangement demonstrated their early interest in Marquinhos. RTE Esporte reports, however, indicate that given the Brazilian club’s financial limitations, a permanent move is quite unlikely. This raises questions about whether the buyout clause was added as a strategic move or just as a formality to seal the loan.

Marquinhos will likely return to Arsenal

Marquinhos’ long-term future with Arsenal is in doubt because of his consistent but unimpressive performances at Fluminense. Arsenal may be able to negotiate a better deal elsewhere if he can improve throughout the loan period and draw attention from other teams. He might, on the other hand, return to North London with little chance of joining Mikel Arteta’s team after a lacklustre performance.

For the time being, Marquinhos’ growth must continue to be the main priority. He still has plenty of time to develop his abilities and reach the promise that attracted Arsenal to purchase him from São Paulo at the age of 21. If he ends his loan period well, his worth might increase and either pave the way for a permanent transfer or provide Arsenal with a valuable alternative in future trade negotiations.
