Arsenal are looking at the possibility of recalling William Saliba from loan.

French news sources claim the Gunners are looking into the possibility of breaking their deal with Saint Etienne.

Arsenal paid €30m for Saliba in July and agreed to let Etienne keep him for the 2019/20 season. However, given how poorly the present bunch of players have been performing at Arsenal, the North Londoners might need serious reinforcements.

Mikel Arteta has taken charge of the club and is expected to implement a number of “non-negotiable” changes. He has agreed to give the poorly performing players a clean slate but there is no guarantee on who will stay or get kicked out.

Saint-Etienne could offer a strong fight, given how adamant they were on keeping Saliba in the summer. There performances this season have been much better with him in the side. However, the Frenchman has suffered a long spell on the sidelines as well.

Arsenal could argue, Saliba is much better off recovering in their North London facilities. If the defender gets convinced on that stance maybe a compromise could be made where Etienne gets paid a small fee in compensation.

For now, this still looks like a far off possibility. Saliba is mostly viewed as a future prospect when Arsenal need an experienced guard at the back.
