Arsenal are reportedly plotting a way to terminate Mesut Ozil’s contract by January.
Mirror Sports understands that the Gunners have tried once again to settle the remainder of his deal ten months ahead of its course.
Ozil is due to receive £350,000 per week until June 2021, which was the original terms of the contract he signed in January 2018. Mikel Arteta has dropped him from the Europa League squad this season and has deemed him to be an excess ever since the season restart in July.
Ozil’s last game for Arsenal was in March in a home win over West Ham United. Several situations unfolded over the past few months that drove a wedge between him and the club’s hierarchy. Just like Manchester United paying out Alexis Sanchez’s wages to release him, Arsenal planned a similar strategy to get Ozil off of their books.
The German adamantly rejected the terms with hopes of remaining until his contract expires and all payments made in full. Seeing how he might never play for Arsenal again, it would be pointless to keep him in the club grounds and expend any more resources towards him.
We can all expect a drawn-out saga before this relationship is brought to an end either now or until the season end.
