Arsenal are reportedly scouting Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz.
Manchester City are offering stiff competition due to their buy-back clause with the Villans.
Luiz has developed pretty well since coming into the Premier League in 2017 from Vasco De Gama. He featured for Girona for two seasons while on loan and eventually had to be sold due to unavailability of a work permit. Pep Guardiola was hesitant to let the youngster leave but did not have an immediate need for him either.
Mikel Arteta waorked with the 22-year-old when he was still serving as Guardiola’s assistant in City. He and everyone at City is aware of Luiz’s footballing talents and he is exactly the type of player both clubs need. While he could replace Fernandinho at the Etihad, Arsenal desperately need a agile midfielder to play in the midfield pivot.
Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are looking to be on their way out of the club already while Arsenal are being strongly linked with Thomas Partey. The size of the transfer from Atletico Madrid along with convincing Partey without European football is proving to be hiccup in the chase. Luiz is being lined up as an alternative, although in a perfect world, Arsenal would probably sign both.
Aston Villa signed Luiz for £15 million last summer and featured him 41 games this season. If those reports are anything to go by, City are likely to sign him back for anything close to £25 million after the first year.
