According to Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, as cited by Metro, Arsenal are looking to sign Gelson Martins on loan from Atletico Madrid. The Gunners have reportedly opened talks with the La Liga giants and might be on their way to land the Portuguese star this January.
Atletico reportedly are looking to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea themselves and might look to offload Martins in order to make space for the Spaniard, which makes the deal look even more likely for the Gunners.
The north London club have earlier confirmed that they would not go for permanent signings this January due to financial restrictions and thus a loan move is the only possible way for Unai Emery’s man to land the Portuguese starlet.
The player has been pushed down the pecking order by the Atletico manager Diego Simeone and has been used only 12 times this season in all competitions so far. He has made only one appearance as a starter in La Liga for Los Rojiblancos this season and might be on his way out of the club this January.
With Atletico willing to add Morata to their lineup, it might be a good opportunity for the Gunners to bring the player to the Emirates Stadium. Emery could do very well with the highly rated Portuguese winger and now it is to be seen whether he can bring the player to the north London club or not.
