Arsenal manager, Unai Emery have reportedly taken an interest in Colombia’s “El Tigre” and wants to bring him back to the Premier League.
Radamel Falcao of AS Monaco, who has been nicknamed “The Tiger” is being pursued by a Real Betis and Emery’s former club, Sevilla as well.
The striker was a force to be reckoned with 5 years back, scoring goals left and right for Atletico Madrid. Falcao’s 70-goal tally in 91 games for Diego Simeone’s side earned him a move away to AS Monaco and then to Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 33-year-old could never settle in the Premier League but he did return to form in the Monaco ranks recently. With just a year left in his current deal, plenty of clubs are looking to poach away this veteran forward.
As one would expect, Falcao is not the player he once was. His athletic abilities have dropped significantly, aided by his close relationship to injuries but he still is a massive threat in the opposition box.
Arsenal could be in need of a backup forward as Danny Welbeck is set to leave the Emirates this summer. Other reports claim that Alexandre Lacazette has also entered Barcelona’s wishlist for the summer with talks of a £70m bid being lined up.
Unai Emery certainly draws a bit of predictability around him with the players that get linked with Arsenal right upon his appointment. First, it was Ever Banega, then Steven N’Zonzi and now it’s Radamel Falcao.
Maybe it is time to abandon the prospects of signing washed up players who would not be an immediate improvement to this Gunners squad. Emery have far more pressing issues to address than to chase after a striker whose best days are evidently behind him.
