Martin Odegaard has handed in a request at Real Madrid to let him leave on loan this month.
Zinedine Zidane no longer rates the attacking midfielder after deciding to recall him from loan last summer.
Odegaard made a few cameos early on in the season but did not really impress. His game still needs development and is deemed not good enough for Los Blancos. However, the Norway international was enjoying a prolific season with Real Sociedad last term.
His 12 appearances without a goal might have led to Zidane taking another route with his team selection. What Arsenal can offer Odegaard is more playing time. Right now, Mikel Arteta has a problem with his squad depth.
The new youth revolution that Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe have brought to the side has worked wonders. But Arteta is only one injury away from his side’s attacking unit collapsing once again. What Odegaard would offer is more options in the number ten role, currently occupied by Smith Rowe.
Odegaard has shown his pedigree last season and at 22, he is the perfect option. He would come in without costing a whole lot of money and will have a short time to prove himself. If the move does not work out, he could simply be sent back to Madrid with Arsenal pursuing other options in the summer.
