Arsenal have reportedly launched their summer transfer business with a bold £63.5 million offer for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, as Mikel Arteta looks to reshape his squad into genuine Premier League champions.

Arteta Targets Gyokeres as Arsenal Begin Push for Premier League Glory

According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, the Gunners have tabled their first formal bid for the Swedish forward, who has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign with 53 goals across all competitions for club and country.

Gyokeres is believed to be open to the move, and Arsenal hope to wrap up a deal early to avoid a potential bidding war.

With Arteta likely to finish his third consecutive season in second place, the pressure is mounting on the Spaniard to deliver silverware in 2025-26.

Arsenal have gone five years without a major trophy, and their lack of cutting edge in front of goal has been a recurring issue — they’ve managed only 64 Premier League goals this season, a staggering 17 fewer than champions Liverpool.

Kai Havertz, who has led the line for much of the campaign, has just 17 goals to his name — highlighting the need for a more clinical presence up top.

Gyokeres, with his physicality, work rate, and lethal finishing, could be the missing piece in Arteta’s attacking puzzle.

But reinforcements may not end there. With midfield duo Thomas Partey and Jorginho set to depart this summer, Arsenal are also targeting Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.

The Spanish deep-lying playmaker is highly rated for his technical ability and positional intelligence — attributes that would ease the load on Declan Rice and add fluidity to Arsenal’s buildup play.

Should both signings materialize, Arsenal’s summer outlay under Arteta would near the £800 million mark — a staggering investment that underlines the club’s ambition.

The Gunners travel to Anfield on Sunday to face Liverpool, where they will give the newly crowned champions a guard of honour.

Arteta, meanwhile, will be hoping that come next May, it will be his squad receiving the same treatment.
