According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have agreed terms with Beşiktaş J.K to send Mohamed Elneny on loan for the 2019/20 season.
Unai Emery told the Egyptian that both he and Shkodran Mustafi should look for moves away from the Emirates.
Elneny hardly featured for the Gunners last term and the arrival of Dani Ceballos this summer of loan and Joe Willock breaking out of the club’s youth ranks, has demolished any chances of the 27-year-old making a first-team appearance this season.
Emery likes to dominate the midfield spaces with both creative and defensive midfielders and somehow, Elneny just doesn’t fit into that style. Lucas Torreira has emerged as the major defensive force while Matteo Guendouzi has been developing into a key piece for Arsenal.
Ceballos with his creative style can be added to both deep and advanced roles just like Joe Willock. There seems to be more than enough cover for the three midfield roles and Elneny would simply be kept on as a luxury.
At the time being, Arsenal cannot afford to keep such high wage bills after they broke their transfer record this summer for Nicolas Pepe. The Gunner also failed to move Mesut Ozil out of the club, whose £350,000-per-week salary is clearly proving to be a bad investment.
Arsenal paid £7m for Elneny in 2016 and they could recuperate that value next summer if Besiktas agrees to a permanent move.
