According to the latest reports, Unai Emery had sent his best staff to watch Sampdoria midfielder, Dennis Praet in action against Lazio this past weekend.
Calcio Mercato claims that the Gunners have been monitoring the 24-year-old for quite some time in hopes of adding him to the list of potential replacements for Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman’s oncoming scheduled departure from the Emirates this summer has set off a giant crisis within the Arsenal ranks. Unai Emery has been tasked with replacing the 28-year-old with a very limited transfer budget.
The Spanish boss will have to look far and wide if he is to find a player even remotely as effective as Ramsey within Arsenal’s price range. Praet is the man the watch, who is valued at €20m by the Serie A outfit.
Of course, it was from Sampdoria from where Emery plucked out the Arsenal fan favourite, Lucas Torreira last summer. The Uruguayan has been a massive hit at the Emirates this season and the Gunners boss might be looking to do further business with the Blucerchiati.
Although Torreira has been spectacular for Arsenal, the club’s fans might be a bit thrown off by the prospects of signing Praet. The player is highly versatile in midfield but he does not exactly boast a great offensive record.
He has managed just 4 goals and 6 assists in 102 appearances for Sampdoria. A midfielder is judged by much greater margins than just his/her goal and assist tally but everyone might agree that his record does not seem the least bit fitting to Ramsey’s.
The Welshman is a unique finisher with great offensive contributions whereas Praet can only be depended on to be squad player.
