Arsenal have been urged to make a bold move in the summer transfer window, with former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claiming the Gunners would be making a “real statement” if they managed to land Real Madrid star Rodrygo along with a proven world-class striker.

Paul Robinson: Arsenal Must Sign Rodrygo and No.9 to Make Title Statement

Despite another impressive season under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal fell short in their pursuit of silverware, with many pointing to the absence of an elite No.9 as a key factor behind their shortcomings.

Injuries certainly played a part, but the Gunners’ lack of cutting edge in crucial moments has only intensified calls for a top-class centre-forward.

New sporting director Andrea Berta, already working closely with Arteta, is determined to address that concern.

A shortlist of attacking targets has been drawn up, including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. But the Gunners could be aiming even higher.

Reports in Spain recently revealed Arsenal had made an approach for Rodrygo, with the Brazilian’s future at Real Madrid hanging in the balance.

The 23-year-old is believed to be unsettled and could be available for a fee north of £85 million.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said, “They need a number nine, but if you sign Rodrygo and a number nine, that’s a real statement.

Imagine Saka on the right and Rodrygo on the left — that’s one hell of a pairing behind a world-class striker.”

The former Tottenham shot-stopper also questioned the reliability of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, suggesting Arsenal should consider an upgrade on the left wing.

“Neither of those two have consistently hit the levels of Saka,” he added.

Rodrygo, who has scored just six La Liga goals this season, is reportedly feeling undervalued at Madrid and contemplating a fresh start.

A move to the Emirates could offer the Brazilian a chance to take centre stage in a title-challenging team.

If Arsenal can pull off both deals, it would certainly send a powerful message to the Premier League and beyond
