Arsenal have almost reached an agreement with Juventus to sign Arthur Melo on loan, but it may be for 18 months rather than six.

According to reports, Arsenal has almost achieved a deal to sign Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus, as they are now prepared to accept an 18-month loan.

Arsenal had requested a six-month loan, but sources indicated that Juventus preferred a lengthier commitment to free up more money on their pay bill.

The Gunners appear to be prepared to make a concession. Perhaps this explains why Sky Sports reported on Friday that Melo’s transition is going well.

Arsenal’s conversations with the player’s agent went smoothly, and while nothing is expected to happen right now, Sky said that there is “nothing to worry about” with the transaction.

Goal reported earlier this week that Arsenal was stepping up its attempts to capture Arthur on loan from Juventus, meeting with the player’s agent on Wednesday.

Arsenal technical director Edu spoke with Federico Pastorello at London Colney in the expectation that discussions with Juventus will begin to go forward.

Goal reported at the time that the player was interested, but Juventus didn’t want to let him go without a successor. Following the discussion between Arthur’s agency and Arsenal, Juventus requested an 18-month loan with a buy option, rather than a six-month loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

According to reports, Arsenal may be willing to agree to the initial half of the transaction, but there is no mention of a buy-back option in the arrangement.
