Arsenal endured an underwhelming season as they failed to win any silverware in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign. They finished 6th in the Premier League and will miss the Champions League next season.
Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of the Gunners and is charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours. The Spaniard has already brought in goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.
He is also close to finalizing his midfield for the upcoming season. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka have already signed new long term contract extensions.
Aaron Ramsey close to agreeing a new contract after a positive contract talks and Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly joining them.
But the Spaniard is also keen to bolster his attacking line up after losing the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez in the past year.
Arsenal are among five clubs who have been offered the chance to sign Max Meyer this summer, reports Bild. They have been a long time admirer of him, with Arsene Wenger was also interested in signing him.
He progressed through the ranks of the German side and made his senior debut for them in 2013. He has been a mainstay in the team since them and is considered as one of Germany’s top rising talent.
But the 22 year repeatedly rejected new contracts from the club, with his contract expiring this summer. He is set to officially become a free agent upon the expiry of his contract on Sunday.
Many top European clubs including the Premier League giants have been credited with interest in getting him on-board for some time as they plan for the long-term future.
They have been informed the German midfielder wants more than £4 m-a-year in wages to commit to a new club, but the Emery’s side are unwilling to match those demands.
