Mikel Arteta is looking to reinforce his midfield ranks with players better suited to his style of football.
The 19-year-old fits the bill with his creative strengths and reportedly will only cost around £15m. That is an affordable sum for Arsenal but they will need to fend off interests from other European outfits.
He has represented the Netherlands up till the U19 level before switching his allegiance to Turkey. Kokcu might have realised that he had better chances to break into the Turks senior squad. He is a dead ball specialist and is primarily a very direct attacking midfielder. He is starting to show all the right traits for a teenager who just turned 19 last December.
Arsenal are looking to sign the right build of players who the will be able to develop under their new manager. Arteta’s philosophy has already been set into action this season, with the club improving their defence drastically. However, scoring goals has been a problem and that is where players like Kokcu fit in.
With Mesut Ozil visibly in the final leg of his career, it has become apparent that Arsenal cannot depend on him to be the leading number ten. Arteta has also not got a chance to fully review Dani Ceballos and the Spaniard is likely to return to Real Madrid next summer. That means the Gunners offensive fate will lie in the hands of Kokcu or any other new signings after the current season.
