Marquinhos set for Fluminense move, Sousa heading to Aston Villa

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is bracing for two departures as the January transfer window reaches its climax. The Gunners, who have yet to secure any new signings this month, are set to see young talents Marquinhos and Lino Sousa exit the club.

Arsenal have yet to acquire a new player this month, and Mikel Arteta looks to have given up hope of doing so. The Spaniard is concerned about the team and stated:

“We have one of the thinnest squads in the League, that’s for sure, and when you talk about the numbers, especially in certain areas, we are really thin,” he said ahead of the club’s win over Nottingham Forest.

“It wasn’t possible [to do any January deals]. And now we didn’t have the capacity to improve the team in the way that we think we want to improve it, so we decided not to do something yet.”

Marquinhos, the Brazilian winger, is poised to join Fluminense, with reports indicating a deal has been finalized.

The 20-year-old, currently on international duty with Brazil’s Olympic qualification campaign, had his loan spell at Nantes cut short earlier in the month after limited game time in Ligue 1.

The move to Fluminense could potentially include an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old defender Lino Sousa is set to make a switch to Aston Villa. Sousa, who joined Arsenal from West Bromwich Albion two seasons ago, has completed his medical ahead of a proposed loan move to Plymouth Argyle.

Despite not making a senior appearance for the Gunners, Sousa’s potential has attracted interest from several clubs, including Rangers, Galatasaray, and Juventus.

As Arteta prepares for these departures, Arsenal fans will be eager to see if any last-minute arrivals materialize before the transfer window slams shut.
