Arsenal have drawn links to Feyenoord playmaker, Orkun Kokcu for the better part of the 2019/20 season.
Mikel Arteta views him as the long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil whose contract is due to run out in 2021.
Arsenal are currently in the pole position to land Kokcu but they will have to fight off Chelsea, Sevilla, Valencia and Real Betis. The 19-year-old has already notified Feyenoord about his wishes to leave this summer. He has developed quickly in the Eredivisie and is ready take a chance on himself in the big leagues.
Kokcu is a technically gifted player with seemingly no weak foot. He is a keen setup artist who likes to operate just behind the number nine. His biggest strengths are his close control and vision to lay off defence penetrating passes. The Turkey U21 international is still a teenager and developing himself, having formerly represented the Netherlands at youth level.
Arsenal are in dire need of more creative talent centrally. Ozil’s impact has dropped off significantly over the years and a player of his stature will need to be replaced. Whether Okcu will the right fit remains to be seen but the Gunners will be following Arteta’s vision in rebuilding this team.
