Martinez was also part of Argentina’s Copa America winning squad last year.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are keen to sign Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez this summer.
The North London club have turned their focus toward the Argentinian centre-back after securing the transfer of Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira in a deal worth €40 million.
The 24-year-old is among the most underrated youngsters in Europe. He helped Ajax to win back-to-back Eredivisie titles.
Martinez was also part of Argentina’s Copa America winning squad last year. He could be a long-term prospect for La Albiceleste.
Barcelona are also leading the race for the 24-year-old centre-back. The Catalan giants are now focused on the deal to bring Sevilla defender Jules Kounde to Camp Nou.
Martinez’s contract will expire in 2025, but his future has been plunged into doubt following the departure of manager Erik ten Hag. Hag has now taken charge of Manchester United.
The Dutch giants are looking to keep hold of the 24-year-old, but the Gunners are confident they can strike a deal to bring him to Premier League with an improved bid.
The Gunners are prioritising the transfers of Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans.
